Music and Performance

We’ve got a pretty impressive reputation. Our Clarendon campus is well-renowned for its excellent music technology and performance facilities. We’re amongst only a handful of places in the country that are so well equipped and will allow you to progress to a full BA (Hons) degree in this area.

We’re a Roland Academy, (Roland is one of the world’s largest manufacturer of music technology) which means you have access to cutting edge products including Jupiter 80 Synthesizers, RD 700NX stage pianos and TD-30KV V-drums. We often have national organisations and theatre companies using our facilities, such as Youth Dance England.

You’ll be rubbing shoulders with students in a whole range of areas of expertise, so you’ll be working alongside actors, dancers, technicians, songwriters, performers, producers and sound engineers offering you a brilliant opportunity to broaden your knowledge and make contacts.

You’ll have plenty of opportunities to gain practical experience, getting to grips with arranging your own gigs, performing at in-house events, appearing at external events around Nottingham and enjoying the thriving cultural scene in the city.

Our graduates go onto lead successful careers: Glenn Graham moved on to the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance after studying at ncn. He has recently performed the role of the Swan in Matthew Bourne's international tour of Swan Lake. Glenn is also a patron of our dance company, Company12. Mia Jexen studied acting with us. She was cast in the TV series Fortitude on Sky Atlantic appearing alongside Christopher Ecclestone and Sofie Grabol.

If theatre is your passion, we’ve got a 200-seat theatre and a smaller 80 seat studio theatre both fully equipped with lighting and sound. In addition we have three dance studios, four acting studios, costume department, set design studio and construction workshop. You could also get the unique opportunity to gain vital skills at performance and arts administration within our very own in-house dance company, Company12.

You'll also enjoy:

  • Construction workshop and costume-making facilities for set and wardrobe design and production
  • Three live music performance venues; six band rehearsal spaces; Apple Mac technology suites; mobile music technology pods; DJ booths; professional music software platforms including Pro Tools, Logic, Ableton Live, Native Instruments Maschine, Sibelius and VJ software Modul8
  • Master classes with visiting professionals

We’ve got open days throughout the year, but if you can’t make these dates, we’d love to arrange a personal tour at a time that suits you, just get in touch!
