What our learners have to say about the careers service

Business Admin student, Kate Maslanka

“Before I sought the help of my careers advisor I really didn’t realise the different study options that were available for me to achieve my dream career. I met with Zoe and she guided me through the best study route for me. We sat down and went through the options that she thought would best suit my academic level; it was brilliant to be able to talk it all through with someone. “

I have achieved more than I expected and with the support that I have been given I now know what I can achieve in the future.”

A Level student, Laura Ezenwoke

“I really appreciate the support I received from my Career Coach at ncn, I gained valuable advice at a time when I needed it most. Meeting regularly with my Career Coach really helped to boost my self-esteem, as they helped me to focus on my strengths, experience and qualities, which helped me to make the right decisions for me. They were always ready to answer any questions that I was not sure about and always encouraged me.

“The Career Coaches always told me about any events relating to my future career such as talks, workshops and university open days. Attending these sessions really gave me a clear idea about what I wanted to study at university.”

BTEC Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care, Neha Mahato

“The careers service at ncn really helped me to plan my journey of education and I am now studying Nursing in The University of Nottingham.  I always went to the career advisors for help with my UCAS application and they always had time to check it through for me and look at my personal statement. They even helped me by researching about the universities and their backgrounds and facilities to see if they were the right choices for me.”

It was always good to have their support as it helped me to set a goal and then work towards it in order to reach my destination. The careers team prepared me to go to university and build my future, which is under construction at the moment. I will always be thankful to ncn and their team, they made my dreams come true and helped me to get to where I am today.”

Level 1 Diploma in Caring for Children, Kiran Akhtar

“The careers service at ncn has really gone above and beyond what I could have expected. I’ve always wanted to work with children, so I thought I would ask the ncn careers advisor about the best way to get a job in this area. They couldn’t have been more helpful, one of the careers advisors sat with me and went through my CV to make sure that it read properly and she even arranged for me to do a trial day at a local nursery.

“It was great to get some experience; I seemed to fit in well with the team as they offered me some part-time work there whilst I finish my qualification here at college. I couldn’t believe it! Once I’ve finished and passed my Level 1 Diploma in Caring for Children, the nursery has said that they will take me on as an apprentice. It’s all thanks to the careers team, they have been brilliant.”

BTEC Extended Diploma in Applied Sciences (Forensics) student, Joy Benah Nabunya.

“I got lots of help from my careers and destinations coach when I needed to write my personal statement for university. I just didn’t know where to start, but Kelly helped me to structure my ideas and put it all down on paper. I now have an outstanding personal statement that I am really pleased with and confident about.

“Thanks to Kelly’s help, I now have an offer from the university that I want to go to in September, I’m so thankful for all her help and support.”
