VIP launch receives a helping hand from our students

The National Justice Museum has been officially launched following a £1million Heritage Lottery Fund supported project, which brings together the work of the Galleries of Justice Museum, the National Centre for Citizenship and Law (NCCL) and incorporating the City of Caves.

To celebrate the national museum’s new name and identity, a VIP Nottingham launch took place on 18th April with more than 200 guests. Providing the canapés and hospitality for the evening were hospitality and catering trainees from ncn.

Christopher Stamp, ncn Hospitality Trainer and Assessor, said: “We were thrilled to be chosen to provide the hospitality for the launch. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to experience an external event and supports the knowledge and skills they have developed on their course.

“Our students are very capable and highly professional and this really showed during the event; I am extremely proud of them.”

Nicola Burley, Commercial and Development Executive Director at the National Justice Museum, said: “It was great to have New College Nottingham students involved in the launch event for the new National Justice Museum. We like to use local organisations where possible and we were lucky to find such a talented group of local young people who were perfect for this event. It was a hugely important night for us as we welcomed guests from across the UK to help us celebrate our new museum and identity. The students showed a huge amount of professionalism throughout the evening and we received lots of positive comments from guests attending the event.”

Candice Pryce, 17, from Gedling, is studying the Level 1 Professional Chefs Diploma. She said: “It was great fun being part of such a big event, and putting the skills I’ve learnt at college to good use. The thing I love most about my course is serving and speaking to customers, so being involved in this event with so many guests was such a good experience and a big confidence boost.”

Callum Watson, 19, from Hyson Green, is studying Level 3 Hospitality Supervision and works as a waiter at Bestwood Lodge Hotel alongside his studies at ncn. “It was great to be part of the launch and it gave me a fantastic insight into how a function of this scale is run. I really want to progress within the hospitality industry and eventually become a manager so I’m always looking for ways to boost my CV, gain external contacts and build on my experience.”

Professional Chefs Diploma student, Charlie Fleet, 16, from Barnstone, said: “As part of my course I gain practical, commercial experience working in the college’s Adams Restaurant so I was able to draw on these skills for this event. I enjoyed working in a different environment and meeting new people, and it was nice to get the chance to showcase my skills to an external client.”

The newly refurbished museum will include a range of new exhibition areas, whilst displaying the UK’s largest collection relating to law, justice, crime and punishment. It will also offer a range of fun, interactive activities for the whole family to enjoy.
