Congratulations to our HE Graduates!

Congratulations to our HE Graduates!

03/11/2017

More than 400 Nottingham College Higher Education (HE) students are celebrating their academic success as they graduate today.

To mark the occasion, a special ceremony was held at Nottingham’s Albert Hall on Friday 3rd November, which saw nearly 250 graduands come together with their friends and family to celebrate.

Guests of honour included the Lord Mayor of Nottingham, Councillor Michael Edwards and the Vice Chairman of Nottinghamshire County Council, Councillor Sue Saddington, who joined College staff to congratulate the graduates on their achievements. The ceremony opened with a procession led by Nottingham College Chief Executive, John van de Laarschot. He commented:

“The Albert Hall and its grandeur offered the perfect backdrop for our HE students as they graduated today. They have all worked so hard over the past few years and this is their chance to celebrate their success with their lecturers, friends and family, who I’m sure are all very proud of them.

“This momentous occasion marks the start of an exciting new chapter for our graduates, whether that’s continuing in education or embarking on a new career. Hopefully they will look back at their time at Nottingham College with fond memories and I wish them the very best for the future.”

Graduate of the Year award went to Shabnam Sultana (photographed above), who achieved a Foundation Degree in Supporting Teaching and Learning in School, and is progressing to Nottingham Trent University to study a BA (Hons) in Education. She said: “It’s such a wonderful and proud feeling to graduate from College, and winning this award is like the cherry on top. I feel so overwhelmed; it came as a complete surprise! I’m so pleased that I was part of such a brilliant event.”

The latest DLHE survey (Destinations of Leavers from Higher Education) shows that 98% of graduates were in employment or further study within six months of graduating from the College.
