Nottingham College students aspiring to further their education attended a mini University Fair at our High Pavement Sixth Form campus this week.

The aim of the event, organised by the College Careers Team, was to introduce current learners to a variety of universities and degree courses around the country.

Around 300 people, including home and international students, attended and had the opportunity to speak to representatives from 17 institutions including the Universities of Nottingham, Derby, Birmingham, Southampton and Leeds.

Tu Zigian, 19, who is studying an International Foundation Accounting course said:
“I am so pleased that I came to this event, as I received some very good advice about my next steps and am now hoping to study Accounting and Finance at the University of Nottingham or Birmingham.”

Li Chenxi, 17, currently a student on the International Foundation Economics and Management course enthusiastically stressed:
“I now feel that I have a much better knowledge and understanding of the university options available to me, the entry requirements and university locations. I am still undecided on which place to choose but it is between the University of Leeds, Birmingham, Lancaster or Sussex.”

Ria Dickson, 17, a History, Maths and Communications and Culture A-Level student said:
“I am taking time to speak to all of the university advisers, as I think that it’s a great opportunity for me to learn about a range of university degree options available to me and all in one place! I know that I want to do a Psychology degree and feel that by the time I leave, I will know where I want to go.”

Ansel Liv, 20, who is hoping to follow his International Foundation Business course with a Business degree said:
“Coming here has been a great move for me, as I am one step closer to having the business career that I want. After speaking to the advisers, Leeds University is my first choice as it has a great reputation and is located in a great city.”

Ting Yan Ng, 18, who is hoping to pursue a career in Occupational Therapy after her International Foundation Science course said:
“I was able to find out more about the Universities of Derby, Southampton and Coventry as a result of attending this event which are the places I feel I would most like to go to. However, I feel Coventry University stands out most to me, as I like what the course offers and the facilities are fantastic, including a brand new building for medical students.”

As well as enabling students to obtain invaluable advice, guidance and routes to university from professionals, students were also able to join a series of interactive workshops delivered by the universities.

Attendees acquired further knowledge via. talks and presentations and participated in activities in Engineering by Loughborough University, The Built Environment by Derby University and Business by Keele University.
Speaking of the event, Sharon Franklin, Careers and Destination Coach at the College said:

“The University Fair is a fantastic opportunity for Nottingham College students to explore the vast amount of degree and career options available to them, many of which they may not have previously been aware of.

"Obtaining information and speaking to the university advisers inspires many students and helps direct their current study.”
