News - Sky's the limit for new designer

HND Graphic Design student, Rheannon Cummins, won the ‘Sky Green Award’ at the New Designers exhibition in London on 15th July, for her sustainable design project.

New Designers is an annual show which brings together the very best in UK graduate design, showcasing the work and talent of the next generation of designers. A range of disciplines were exhibited from architecture to animation, furniture to fashion and graphics to glass.

The judges commented: “Rheannon’s work is particularly relevant to this award because her unique commitment to sustainable design has been creatively and conscientiously applied to all her projects.”

Rheannon hopes to carry on with her freelance work whilst gaining experience in the industry, working for a ‘company that she can add to’ with like-minded creatives. She intends to spend her prize money on design books and is thrilled at the recognition that the award will bring, not only for herself but also to sustainable design.

Rowena Togni (HND Graphic Design) was also recognised in this category as runner-up.

ncn Programme Manager for Art, Design & Fashion, Graham Burton, commented: “The whole week was an outstanding success, with numerous offers for placements for our students, as well as invitations to be involved in a variety of design projects for brands including: Hallmark Cards, Sky, Disney, Oxford University Press and Computer Arts Magazine. I would like to congratulate our students for their fantastic achievement at such a prestigious event.”
