How ncn Students can access Course Folders from home

What are Course Folders?

• Course Folders are folders stored here on the network at ncn, into which your Tutor may have put files relating to your course; such as Handouts, Assignment Details, Reading Lists, Weblinks etc.
• You will only see the Course Folders for the courses that you are studying/enrolled on.
• Students have read-only access to the Course Folders, but you may save a file off to your computer, pen drive, CD-Rom etc. if you want to edit it.

Access your Course Folders directly

If you want to access your Course Folders directly, or are having problems accessing Course Folders, you can now access your Course Folders directly by clicking here.

To access your Course Folders from home (or any external computer):

1. First open up your Web Browser and go to http://www.ncn.ac.uk/students

2. An authentication box (as shown below - depending on your computer’s operating system) will then appear.

3. You will then need to log in to the ncn network as detailed below:

   • For Windows XP/Windows Vista Computers:

     In the User name box enter ACADEMIC\ followed by your Student ID Number e.g. ACADEMIC\30003670. Your Password is your date of birth (in the format ddmmyyyy) e.g. 05061979 (unless you have already logged in at college and changed your password yourself).

     

   • For Windows 98 / Windows 2000 / Apple OSX:

     In the User name box enter your Student ID Number e.g. 30003670. Your Password is your date of birth (in the format ddmmyyyy) e.g. 05061979 (unless you have already logged in at college and changed your password yourself). In the Domain box enter ACADEMIC.

     

4. The home page of the student Intranet will then load up. Click on the ‘My Course Folders’ link highlighted below:

   

5. Then click the ‘Open My Course Folders’ link (highlighted below). Your Course Folder will then open up in a new window.

   

If you have any problems accessing Course Folders

• Firstly, please retry ensuring you are following the instructions above carefully, especially with regards to logging in.
• Please also ensure that any pop-up blockers are turned off.
• You can also try accessing your course folders directly.
