Adama Jallow
Tourism Management (International Tourism) Foundation Degree
"I moved from Luton to Nottingham five years ago. My cousin was studying at ncn and recommended it to me. I started at ncn in 2006 and studied a BTEC in Gateway to Airport and Airline Operations. At the time, my daughter was six months old and so I had to juggle study, family life and a part-time work placement, which was organised through the College.
"I’m currently doing a Foundation Degree in Tourism Management at ncn. Tourism is a family passion – my uncle is the present owner of a national tour company, which brought the first visitors to The Gambia in 1965. I think it’s this passion for tourism that’s inspired me to pursue my dreams. My family and workplace have been so supportive, I don’t know whether I could have got this far without their help.
"My course includes a placement, and in March 2009, a group of us went to The Gambia to look at sustainable/responsible tourism, which is something I’m really passionate about.
"Once I’ve finished my Foundation Degree, I’d like to top up with the BA (Hons) Service Sector Management, if I get the grades I need. Eventually I’d like to do a Masters, if money allows! ncn is a great place to study, I’ve got everything I need here. I’d do my Masters here if they offered it!"
