These courses are suitable for people who have left school, have few or no qualifications, may need extra support in their learning, or have disabilities and/or learning difficulties.

Pre-entry Programme

You will study literacy and numeracy as well as a whole range of areas including ICT, Community Skills, Citizenship, Independence Skills, Personal Safety and Creative Arts. The programme generally lasts two years, and at the end, if you feel ready, you can move onto the Entry Level programme.

Entry Level

You will study areas to improve your numeracy, literacy and communication skills. You will also develop decision-making, planning, goal setting and work skills. You can choose from a wide range of work-related subjects including Construction, Hairdressing, IT, Art and Design, Sports and Recreation and more. The course lasts one year; a second year is optional if you need it. At the end of the course you can move onto Level 1 courses including Level 1 Vocational Pathways and Pathway to GCSE, which can then lead onto higher level qualifications, or into employment plus training.

Level One Vocational Pathways

You will study literacy, numeracy, IT and the ASDAN Certificate in Personal Effectiveness. You can choose from a wide range of work-related subjects including Beauty Therapy, Hairdressing, IT and Media, Art and Design, Fashion, Small Animal Care and PC Maintenance. These courses are appropriate for you if you do not have any formal qualifications or if your GCSE results are below Grade D. All courses lead to higher level qualifications, or into employment and further training.

Pathway to GCSE

Appropriate for you if your GCSE results are below a Grade D. You will study English, Humanities, IT, Mathematics, Science and Study Skills.

GCSE Provision

For students who have achieved one Grade C and 4 Grade D's (one D must be in English Language), the Full-Time GCSE course offers a second chance for them to re-sit their GCSE examinations and increase their qualification portfolio. We offer GCSE English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Biology, Sociology, Psychology, History and Religious Studies.

'Two plus Two'

'Two plus Two' is a one-year course that allows you to study 2 GCSEs in Maths, Biology, Psychology or RE, as you study 2 AS Levels in Sociology and English Language. You will need three GCSEs at Grade C or above (with at least one Grade B), including English.

'Progress To Business'

'Progress To Business' is a one-year course for students who want to study business. You'll study a BTEC First Certificate in Business, GCSE English and Maths, and then progress to Level 3 Business certification or 'A' Levels. Students must have one Grade C GCSE and three Grade Ds.

BTEC First Diploma in Animal Care

A one year course for students who want to either progress onto a Level 3 Animal Care course or onto a career working with or protecting animals. You will need four GCSEs at Grade D, including English, Maths and Science, and study all aspects of animal care, including an appropriate work placement.

BTEC First Diploma in Applied Science

A one year course for students who wish to go on to study a BTEC National Diploma in Forensic Science or Health Sciences, but have not achieved the necessary 4 GCSE Grade C passes. The units in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Forensic Science will prepare you for advanced study and provide an alternative route to the GCSE programme.
