There are the following types of skills for life courses at ncn:

You can improve your English (reading, writing, speaking and listening) and your Maths (numbers, handling data and measurement) in Basic Skills courses, and also develop skills transferable to the work place .

ESOL Courses are for adults whose first language is not English. You can improve your reading, writing, and speaking and listening skills in an ESOL course, as well as study pronounciation, spelling, grammar and vocational subjects.

Functional Skills are essential skills that help you get on in education, employment and everyday life. They focus on improving competence in communication, numeracy and IT, plus personal skills such as problem solving, managing your own learning time and working with others.
With the skills you learn, you can:
- return to education or training
- increase your salary
- become more employable and use the skills for CV and job applications
- help your child with their homework
- get GCSE equivalent national qualifications in maths, English
or English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
