Manpreet Bhambra, India - HND Computing

I like the flexibility in the course like we have the Tuesday and Wednesday off and we work together and study. The tutors are very, very nice, they are always here to help, I like that. It's really a nice course, I'm enjoying it. After I finish the HND course I want to join the degree programme to work in IT

Khaled Monder, Libya - HND Computing

I like this course because I find you can know more things about computers. You have enough skills to work in the future. I am choosing this course because I come from a developing country, I need to know more about programming computers. I hope to work in computers in the future back in Libya.

Chak Lun Wan, Hong Kong - HND Computing

This course is quite hard but fun. I learn several different specific skills such as designing web-pages, multimedia, programming etc. I want to study a degree as well, to do a year to finish my degree, to go to university.

Midori Manabe, Japan - HND Performing Arts

Midori Manabe

I came to ncn in March 2004 to study a full-time language course before starting my HND Performing Arts in Dance. I really recommend ncn because they have many really nice people here! Before I came to England ncn sent me lots of useful information. The international office staff are very kind, funny, and hard working. I really like them. Sometimes I help them when they have Japanese visitors, especially students who want to ask about courses here.

This year the international office worked with The East Midlands Development Agency and The Arts Council. Colleges from all over the region were invited to take part in a student performance show for international students. It was great fun and I really enjoyed being on stage. This opportunity has given me so much more courage to do things that I have never dreamed of.

On my course I have made many good friends and I know my English has improved. We went to Barcelona to film our project dance piece and it gave me another new experience. I think in ncn I have found and learned many good things, and each day brings a new challenge. I too, am changing all the time.

Keiichiro Hori, Japan - Foundation Music

I believe that the UK has a good education system and studying Music Foundation at ncn allows me to improve my English too. I'm enjoying studying a variety of practical and theoretical classes and my tutor, Andy Wolfe, is great. Studying with British students makes it easy to make friends and people in Nottingham are so kind to international students. I made the right choice when I decided to study at ncn.

So-hee Yim, South Korea - Foundation Music

My ambition is to study Music at university and this course will really help me. The classes are interesting and Nottingham is a lively student city – it is everything I hoped for.

Ai Qun Wang, China - Foundation Business

Ai Qun studied 1 year of English and a 1 year University Foundation course in Business at ncn before starting a Finance, Accounting and Management degree at the University of Nottingham in September 2003.

“I felt that the Foundation course was right for me because it covered a broad background of business studies while supporting me to continue learning English. The teachers taught me how to read for and write essays; they taught us the process of learning which helped me so much when I went to university. My Foundation teachers were very, very helpful, always trying to find the easiest way for the students to understand.

I found the first semester at Nottingham University difficult but it is much easier now. I do lots of reading and studying on my own. In the future I would like to become an accountant. I plan to gain some work experience and later return to study a Masters degree.

Nottingham is not a big city like London but it's got all the things that I want. I stayed in Homestay for a year with an elderly couple, I liked it because it gave me the chance to understand English culture. I've adapted well to the culture and love living in Nottingham.

Nicholas Beadle, Jamaica - HND Business

Nicholas Beadle

Nicholas chose to study in England because he wanted the opportunity to live in a different environment and he believes that the British qualification will improve his job opportunities back in his home country of Jamaica. Having won a scholarship to study at ncn Nicholas has always been interested in business and hopes in the future to become a Business Manager. He says that his course has helped him to develop his presentation skills. He is now confident using Powerpoint. His fluency in spoken English has improved and he is now confident giving presentations in his class.

In his spare time Nicholas works in the Midlands community with Jamaican and African societies. As part of this work Nicholas talks to young people about why they should go to college and he takes them on local and national trips with other volunteers.

Nicholas enjoys living in Nottingham as 'it's safer than where I'm from and the people are more friendly'. Nicholas' main achievement since coming to study in UK is 'learning how to study...because now I'm on my own I have to develop the skills of studying.

Jin Him, Korea - HND Buinsess

Jin Him

When I was young I wanted to come to England because England is a really beautiful country and I thought that England was the perfect place to study.

ncn was recommended to Jin by an agent in Korea. Jin has made lots of friends at ncn, she enjoys working hard on the HND Business course and thinks 'the people are really kind and I like studying here'. When she finishes her studies at ncn Jin hopes to go onto university to ‘top-up' her HND course with an additional year of business. Jin has English lessons each week to help her with her studies. She finds these lessons 'very useful and helpful because the teacher has taught me how to do presentations well and how to read correctly –they are really useful'.
