Entry Requirements
'AS':
- At least Grade C in GCSE English; Grade C in GCSE Music is desirable.
- Applicants should have knowledge of music theory at ABRSM Grade 4 standard and play a musical instrument to Grade 4/5 standard.
'A2':
- At least Grade E in 'AS' Music. Grade D is preferred.
An audition and completion of a theory test are also required.
Course Content
3 units at 'AS' Level, including:
- Performing - performing during the course on four occasions, which will include the performance of one of the student's own compositions
- Developing Musical Ideas - produce a portfolio of composition techniques, exercises and a composition
- Listening and Understanding
3 units at 'A2' Level, including:
- Perform as a soloist or in an ensemble for a 12-15 minute recording
- Compose one 3 minute composition to a chosen brief and a pastiche harmony study
- Musical Understanding, which will involve listening to music, both familiar and unfamiliar, and detailed study of 3 set works
Assessment
A combination of examinations and performance.
