Music is studied at the ncn Clarendon Academy of Performing Arts and Music.

Length

  • 'AS' in Year 1
  • 'A2' in Year 2

Entry Requirements

'AS': at least Grade C in GCSE English. Applicants should have knowledge of Music Theory at ABRSM grade 4 standard and play a musical instrument to grade 4/5 standard
'A2': at least Grade E in 'AS' Music

An audition and completion of a theory test are also required.

Course Content

3 units at 'AS' Level, including:

  • Performing: performing during the course on four occasions, which will include the performance of one of the student's own compositions
  • Developing Musical Ideas: produce a portfolio of composition techniques, exercises and a composition
  • Listening and Understanding

3 units at 'A2' Level, including:

  • Performing: perform as a soloist or in an ensemble for a 12-15 minute recording
  • Compose One 3 Minute Composition to a Chosen Brief and a Pastiche Harmony Study
  • Musical Understanding: listening to music, both familiar and unfamiliar, and detailed study of 3 set works

Assessment

A combination of examinations and performance.
