French is studied at ncn Lace Market 'A' Level Centre.

What will I achieve from the course?

Whatever you plan to do in the future, the ability to communicate in a foreign language, even at a modest level, will bring real benefits and opportunities, both at work and for leisure.

Where the course may lead?

'A’ Level French can lead to a Higher Education course involving a language you have already studied, or a totally new one. Other possibilities are European Studies, or one of the many courses combining a language with another subject, e.g. Accountancy, Business, Economics or Law.

Length

  • 'AS' in Year 1
  • 'A2' in Year 2

Entry Requirements

'AS': at least Grade B in GCSE French
You will also be required to undertake an initial assessment
'A2': at least Grade E in 'AS' French

An initial assessment of your language ability will also be required.

Course Content

2 units at 'AS' Level, including:

  • Development of Language Skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing development
  • Topic Study: media (television, advertising and communication) and popular culture (cinema, music, fashion, health, sport, holidays, family and personal relationships)

2 units at 'A2' Level, including:

  • Further Development of Language Skills
  • Topic Study: environment and the multicultural society (immigration, integration and racism) and contemporary social issues (wealth, poverty, law and order, and the impact of scientific and technological progress)

Assessment

A combination of written and spoken tests.

A Higher Education course in Languages, Business, International Affairs, Teaching or a career in one of these areas.
