ICT can be studied at ncn High Pavement Sixth Form College.
What will I achieve from the course?
The course aims to develop your understanding of the use of IT and the legal and social issues surrounding its use. You will look at a range of applications to see how IT is employed to provide better services and help businesses work more efficiently. You will develop a range of practical skills in the use of various applications packages and you will also learn how to examine existing problems and use IT to provide solutions. In particular, you will learn how to implement solutions by modifying standard packages.
In ICT, we look at the computer more from a user’s point of view and are concerned with what it can do (rather than how it works). Theory work forms a large part of the course and you must be prepared for formal lessons, research and revision of the content. Practical work will provide skills in using a wide variety of applications.
Where the course may lead?
Most students studying ICT intend to go to university and choose a discipline which is not directly IT related, but nevertheless find the experience gained at ’A’ Level a valuable asset. Students who do not apply to university go into a wide range of occupations, many of which involve using computers and their 'A' level experience is very useful.
