Entry Requirements

'AS':

  • At least Grade C or above in GCSE English, preferably Grade B.

'A2':

  • At least Grade E in 'AS' Film Studies.

Course Content

Film is a major art form of the 21st century, and this course provides deeper understanding and enjoyment of a variety of films through practical work, analysis and the study of critical approaches to film.

2 units at 'AS' Level, including:

  • Exploring Film Form: Production of a portfolio, including a short analysis of a film extract. Creation of a short film, a photographed storyboard, or an extended step outline.
  • British and American Film: British genres, 1980s British film, American genres and film industry, and British film audiences.

2 units at 'A2' Level, including:

  • Film Research and Creative Projects: Production of a portfolio of creative work, plus a short research project into a film issue.
  • The Film Experience - Issues and Debates: World cinema, film styles and a critical study of a range of films.

Visiting speakers and visits to film events and organisations are arranged throughout the course.

Assessments, examinations and a portfolio of work.

A Higher Education course in film production, history, teaching, humanities, social sciences or film studies, or a career in one of these areas.
