Art and Design is studied at ncn Lace Market School of Art and Design.
What kind of student is this course suitable for?
This course is experimental in approach and is designed to build on skills already gained at school, offering you an opportunity to develop new ideas and learn new techniques. Areas of study include: drawing, which underpins all Art and Design courses at High Pavement; painting; graphics; textiles; fashion; ceramics; sculpture; printing; and also art history.
Teaching and learning
Tutorials are held on a regular basis throughout the course; they are a good chance to discuss your progress and to talk about your personal investigation/study or any issues you might have. We operate an open door principle; apart from timetabled sessions you are encouraged to use the studios at any time to continue your studies.
Homework is set on a regular basis and may take the form of a visual sketchbook, written work or a research project. We encourage students to visit art galleries and museums, both local and national, and arrange gallery and museum visits throughout the course. We also frequently run projects and/or workshops with industry, artists/designers and the local community.
