Student Profile

Rama Nanda
Service Sector Management BA (Hons)

"I moved from India to Russia at 16 to study Business, specialising in crisis management. It was particularly relevant at the time as Russia was divided and many companies were having difficulties.

"After finishing my course I worked for eight years before moving to the UK to continue my studies. I’d always wanted to work in the hospitality sector, and ncn’s Service Sector Management Degree was the most relevant course I could find as it covered just about everything. It was a big step, but the International team are there to help you adjust to life in a new country.

"The tutors here are so positive and their attitude rubs off on the students. I’ve changed a lot since I’ve been here. If you’re going to work in the service sector you need to be positive and upbeat as you’re dealing face to face with customers.

"I’m building up a really good mix of skills – I’ve got a part-time job in a boutique hotel, which allows me to combine working in the industry with studying. Everything seems to fit together – practical experience and academic theory.

"For my dissertation I’m going to concentrate on the psychological aspects of the course – I really enjoy looking into the emotional side of customer service. In this industry it gives you the edge if you know in advance what the client expects."
