Why apply for Higher Education?
There are many reasons why going into higher education is a good choice. Here are just six!
- Graduates are 50% less likely to be unemployed than non-graduates*
- Graduates earn, on average, significantly more than non-graduates. Young graduates aged 21-30, for example, can expect to earn £6,500 more each year than non-graduates in the same age bracket*
- Whatever your dream job or career, you chances will be improved if you have a Foundation Degree (FD), Degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND).
- Some professions require you to have a higher education qualification.
- You will develop personally and your confidence and independence will grow, along with other important skills which are necessary in the world of work
- You will enjoy a great social life!

What qualifications do I need?
Entry qualifications for Higher Education courses vary for different subjects, ranging from 80 to 120 UCAS points for entry onto one of our HND or Foundation Degree programmes. However, some courses do require you to have studied specific subjects at Level 3. If you have any queries about whether your qualifications are suitable please contact the HE Support Team on 0115 910 4584 or the relevant course leader.
How do I apply?
Full-time applications:
Applications for full-time courses (HNDs, Foundation Degrees, BA Top-ups) should be made online using the UCAS ‘Apply’ system: www.ucas.com/students/apply
Applications should ideally reach UCAS by their pre-set deadlines, in order to guarantee equal academic consideration;
- 15th January 2008 (Route A applications)
- 24th March 2008 (Route B applications)
However, if you have missed the above deadlines do not worry. We are happy to accept applications through UCAS at any time of the year. Additionally there is still time to get a place through Clearing, which is an opportunity for students to apply directly to institutions for a place on an HE course.
Part-time applications:
Applications for part-time courses should be made directly to the College:
HE Admissions
New College Nottingham
The Adams Building
Stoney Street
The Lace Market
Nottingham
NG1 1NG
You should complete an application form for part-time HE courses, a copy of which can be obtained from any ncn centre or by contacting the HE Support Team on 0115 910 4584.
Do you have open days and can I look around?
Throughout the year, the College has Higher Education Open Days. There, you can see the facilities available to Higher Education students, get information about courses, and talk to tutors, advisors and students.
