Let’s Meet
What happens during your meeting with us?
Most students meet with us before they come to college, so there is no need to worry. It’s a big decision and making the right choice will ensure your time at ncn will be enjoyable. When you visit us you will meet a member of the College team.
It is important to arrive on time, but there is no formal dress code, so please wear the clothes you are comfortable in.
The person you meet will ask you about why you would like to come to ncn. We might also test your maths and English skills, but don’t panic; it’s just to help us find the right course for you.
You may be asked to talk about your interest in the course and your commitment to learning. This is also your opportunity to ask questions and look around the College. Remember to ask about financial and learning support you may need, and any course fees or additional costs that may apply.
Can I bring anyone with me?
Of course. Sometimes they will be able to sit with you and other times we might ask them to wait. But please check with us before you come if you’re worried.
Are there additional course costs?
Some courses have additional costs, such as uniforms, specialist clothing, individual equipment and materials. You may need to have these items before you start your course (even if your course fees are free), so ask about them at your meeting.
What should I bring with me?
- Predicated grades
- Qualifications you’ve already got
- Portfolios, if necessary
Will I be offered a place?
There is a course for everyone at ncn! Even if you don’t find a place on your first choice of course, we’ll work with you to find something that’s right for you.
At the end of your meeting you will be told whether you are being offered a place on your first choice of course and what you need to do. You might need to gain certain qualifications or grades in your exams, complete some portfolio work or attend some additional events before your course starts.
Sometimes we may need to meet with you again to work out which course is best for you, in which case we’ll arrange for you to meet our Advice and Guidance team.
What do I do when I receive my offer?
When you receive your offer, think carefully about whether you want to accept your place.
Then, accept your offer!
If, however, you decide not to accept your place, please return the form so that we can offer
the place to someone else.
Do I need to complete and return the questionnaire?
Yes, we ask you to complete and return the questionnaire so we can see whether you had
a good experience when you visited ncn, and to help us improve our service for the future
– your feedback is important to us.
If I have a learning difficulty or disability, what should I do?
Tell us. We offer a range of services providing learning support to students. If you need to discuss your requirements, please call us on 0115 9 100 100 and ask to speak to a learning advisor.
What if I don’t get the exam results I hoped for?
Don’t worry! It is important to work as hard as you can to achieve good exam results. However, if you don’t quite get the results you hoped for, you may still be able to do the same course. But if not, we may be able to offer you a place on another learning programme that suits you. Full support and a series of events will be available when ‘A’ Level and GCSE results come out, so call us for advice.
Any more questions?
If you are unsure or worried about anything to do with your application or your meeting with us, do give us a call on 0115 9 100 100 and ask to speak to an admissions officer or email enquiries@ncn.ac.uk
Remember, we are here to help and can’t wait to meet you!
