Lorenzo Leccese, FdA Fashion student, has won a two-week placement at Nottingham-based clothing manufacturers George Street Clothing and £125, after being awarded first place in a competition to design ‘Disney princess and fairy’ outfits set by the company.

The brief was to design a children’s ‘Disney’ princess or fairy outfit and Lorenzo chose ‘Princess Tiana’ from the 2009 film The Princess and the Frog. Lorenzo’s design will be made into a sample garment so he can experience the whole process from design through to manufacture.

Linda Gardner, senior designer for George Street Clothing, said: “Lorenzo undertook detailed research into the character and showed good design development. His sketchbook of ideas was beautifully presented and his concepts would be suitable for a child.”

Second prize of £75 went to Michelle Stimpson and third prize of £50 to Jo Hubbard. All of the students involved received positive comments about their use of colour, research work and design ideas.
