The skills of 20 Beauty students studying NVQ 3 Nail Technology at ncn’s Hucknall campus were tested on 19 April in a competition sponsored by UK awarding body, City & Guilds.

With a time limit of two hours the students had to create a full set of freehand French nail enhancements in either acrylic or gel and had to answer a series of theory questions which were later assessed by chief judge Anita Crosland from City & Guilds.

18-year-old Stevie Thorpe was announced the overall winner and was presented with a £150 cheque. Runner up, Cheryl Morley, 27, received £50.

ncn Beauty Lecturer, Sarah Frettingham, said: “The competition was a wonderful opportunity for our Nail students to show off the skills developed from their course. There is a shortage of competitions for nail technicians so this is a great chance for our students to shine and to gain some recognition for their hard work. I would like to thank City & Guilds for their support.”
