Trainee decorator, Patrick Samples, from ncn came second in the annual Apprentice Paperhanger of the Year competition organised by the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) and hosted by ncn.
The competition, now in its fourteenth year, tested the ability of apprentices aged between 17 and 23, to match and cut paper accurately, to place borders correctly and to apply paper smoothly without blisters.
Eighteen-year-old Patrick, who is currently studying a Level 3 NVQ in Painting and Decorating at ncn whilst working for Johns of Nottingham Painters and Decorators, received a £200 cash prize along with a new toolkit at the PDA Annual Conference held in Cumbria.
Patrick commented: “The competition was a good experience and an opportunity to use the skills I’ve learnt. The other apprentices taking part were all very talented so I was really pleased and surprised to come second.”
