Amy Cooper, NVQ Level 3 Professional Cookery (Pastry Chefs) student, has won a competition to spend a day at the acclaimed Merchants restaurant at the Lace Market Hotel with Head Pastry Chef, Colin Whittle, and to have her dessert included on the lunchtime menu.

Her lemon parfait with basil sorbet and baked shortbread, inspired by Gordon Ramsay, earned her first place in the student competition judged by Chef Whittle and Alan Johnson, ncn Culinary Coordinator.

“I was pleased with my dessert as I had spent a lot of time perfecting it,” Amy said. “But I was shocked to win as the standard of the other desserts was so high.”

Chef Whittle said: “The 11 students produced dishes of a really high standard and spectacular presentation. Amy’s basil sorbet was outstanding.”

Amy also won the Nigella Lawson book How to be a Domestic Goddess.

Fellow students Nathan Sabellini and Natalie Green received runner up prizes of chocolate recipe books. All of the desserts will feature on the Adams Restaurant & Brasserie menu in the coming weeks.
