Residents from Queenswood MHA Home (Methodist Homes for the Aged) in Beeston are learning how to communicate effectively in the 21st century thanks to a unique ‘intergeneration programme’ set up by ncn and Chilwell School.

Using the facilities on ncn’s Learning Bus (a purpose-built community learning unit operated by ncn and supported by the Big Lottery Fund) six year 10 boys from Chilwell School are teaching a group of Queenswood residents, computer skills such as email, how to use social networking sites such as Twitter and search engines like Google.

Paul Sweeney, Deputy Head Teacher at Chilwell School, commented: “The programme has proven extremely successful. It is an excellent way to engage the pupils and the wider community as part of our school specialism in mathematics, computing and the arts. This project has encouraged our students to take responsibility for their learning and to make links across the generations.”

The ncn Learning Bus has disability access and is equipped with nine computer work stations, printers, scanner, projector, TV and video and onboard refreshment facilities. For more information or to enquire about booking the Bus contact the ncn Community team on 0115 912 1617.
