An ncn student and a college business partner have triumphed at the East Midlands Apprenticeship Awards.
Sous chef Matt Roe and local business JAB Electrical won East Midlands Advanced Apprentice and Small Employer of the Year respectively.
Matt Roe, Level 3 Professional Cookery apprentice, is employed by G4 Inns Ltd at Erewash Golf Club.
Sacha McCarthy, ncn Head of School said: “Matt is a talented, committed young chef with the drive to excel in his field. He works hard and pushes himself to achieve, always going the extra mile.”
ncn is currently delivering six apprenticeships for JAB Electrical. It nominated the company for the award because of their commitment to apprenticeships as an essential part of developing their workforce.
Director Danny Gee, a former ncn apprentice, said: “We have invested a lot into our apprentices and with the help of ncn we have seen all of our students excel both at college and in the workplace.
“JAB Electrical has benefited from employing apprentices; all of our senior staff have been trained within the company or completed their apprenticeships with us, so they know and understand the importance of delivering the highest possible level of service to our customers.”
TV star Michaela Strachan hosted the ceremony and paid tribute to all the finalists and winners. She said: “We’ve seen some fantastic achievements and considerable successes. Well done to everyone who has taken part in the Awards. The East Midlands really does have something to shout about. You should all be very proud.
As a result of their regional win, both awardees have been shortlisted for the final National Apprenticeship Awards to be announced in London in July.
The awards are organised by the National Apprenticeship Service (NAS) and the main sponsor is City & Guilds. The East Midlands event sponsor was the Skills Funding Agency.
