Learners with learning difficulties and/or disabilities (LLDD) at ncn have been using their entrepreneurial skills to create colourful floral displays for the outside area at ncn Hucknall.

Plantastic, based at ncn Bath Street, forms part of ncn’s Enterprise Business Group, which offers a practical, real-life training and working environment for LLDD learners, enabling them to build confidence, learn basic life skills and progress to paid or voluntary employment.

As part of the Skills for Working Life course learners are taught how to plant, grow and harvest their own vegetables. They also produce and sell to the public a range of planters, hanging baskets, wreaths and potted indoor bulbs.

Tom Grainger, Course Tutor, commented: “To ‘bid’ for the contract at ncn Hucknall presented an exciting opportunity for the students. It provided them with a fantastic chance to broaden their experience of commercial work and to practice the skills learnt during their course in a new and extended way.”

Hucknall campus lead, Michael Motley, added: “The 14 new planters have really improved the appearance of the entrance to the College. I would like to thank the Plantastic team for their hard work and look forward to their continued support.”
