College receives outstanding contribution award

The College's School of Food, Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism has been awarded an ‘Outstanding Contribution to Industry’ accolade at the 2010 Nottinghamshire STARS awards, in recognition of its significant impact on the tourism, leisure, and hospitality industries across Nottinghamshire. Emma Woods, Head of School, commented: “We are thrilled that the hard work and dedication of our staff has been recognised and rewarded so significantly by our local partners and stakeholders."

Two ncn students have also won awards: Michal Majewski (Capers Brasserie and Wine Bar) - ‘Most Promising Student’ and Selina Hayes (Yo! Sushi)- ‘Most Promising Trainee’.

Additionally, ncn’s Work-based Learning and Train to Gain Hospitality and Catering team was named runner up for ‘Best Practice in Training’ and ncn students named runners up for ‘Outstanding Young Manager’ and ‘Most Promising Trainee’.

The annual STARS awards celebrate excellence in tourism, culture, leisure and hospitality service in Nottinghamshire, recognising individuals or groups who work to improve skills, training, attitude and retention within these sectors. ncn award winners:

  • Outstanding Contribution to Industry - School of Food, Hospitality, Leisure & Tourism
  • Most Promising Student – Michal Majewski (Level 1 VRQ Professional Chefs Diploma)
  • Most Promising Trainee – Selina Hayes (Level 3 Apprentice); Runner up – Jack Scavetta (Level 3 Advanced Apprentice)
  • Best Practice in Training Runner Up – Work-based Learning and Train to Gain Hospitality and Catering team
  • Outstanding Young Manager Runner Up – Natalie Toole (Train to Gain level 3)
