ncn's Community team has been presented with the ‘best event and organiser’ award from the Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Council for an event they held as part of The Big Learning Weekend.
The College’s adult learner taster session, held at the Mary Potter Centre in Hyson Green, attracted the most learners during the free education festival which aimed to inspire members of the public to try something new. Tasters included healthy eating advice, nail art, hand massage and henna art. Members of staff also offered advice and information about the variety of community learning opportunities available at the College.
ncn Development Worker, Parveen Shafiq, accepted the award at a presentation held at the Mary Potter Centre on 21 May. She said: “Our sessions at the Centre were a great success. With almost 200 participants, we received interest from a wide range of people - men, women and families of all ages and backgrounds.”
Terry Shrimpton, Project Manager at the Greater Nottingham Partnership, added: “This event was a great opportunity to join together adult education and health. It gave the Nottingham community a taste of how they can help make themselves feel healthier through learning new skills and taking part in different activities.”
The Big Learning Weekend took place in February and was organised by local adult education providers with funding from the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Government Transformation Fund for informal adult learning.
