Finalist Savannah Bailey
Four Foundation Degree Fashion Interpretation and Practice students from New College Nottingham (ncn) have reached the final of the WorldSkills UK Made-to-Measure competition. They will now compete against six others from across the country at Northumbria University from 11 to 13 June.
Markus Wernitznig came first in the semi-final earlier in May, and is no stranger to WorldSkills competitions, having won the silver medal in the 2009 final. Markus said: “I’m looking forward to the final as it is great to spend time working with people who represent the best in the country. If you win a prize then that’s even better.”
Second and third places in the semi-final went to Savannah Bailey and Kathryn Emmerson, with fellow student Kristie Walker also making the final shortlist.
The Made to Measure competition promotes the importance of technical skills required within the UK fashion industry. The top prize is a week’s work placement in the pattern room at Debenhams London Head Office.
Outstanding competitors from the WorldSkills UK competition 2010 may get a chance to represent the UK in the next international WorldSkills competition in London 2011.
Note
The competition is organised by UK Skills in association with industry partners.
