News - College is praised for employer provision

ncn is one of the first colleges to be awarded an ‘outstanding’ classification by Ofsted for employer responsive training provision which is highlighted in a report published by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS).

Skills for Life: Changing Lives was published in March and details the government’s commitment to increase levels of adult literacy, numeracy, and ICT skills to help them in their working life, especially during the economic downturn. The report states that, in order to reach the ambitious Skills for Life objectives, it relies on providers delivering provision which is “high quality, flexible and responsive to the needs of individuals and employers.”

ncn Skills for Life Enterprise staff have mapped the NVQs they offer against the generic communication-based competences common to most of them, and have devised learning resources to develop skills such as customer care and communication skills. This gives employees the opportunity to take national Skills for Life tests and acquire their NVQ units from the same teaching sessions.

Michael Motley, Managing Director for ncn at work, said: “We are delighted to have been recognised for our high quality employer responsive provision. The College strives to be flexible to the needs of employers and deliver creative training solutions, whilst embedding essential Skills for Life within the provision for employee development.”
