Student's cabinet on display at the Centre
First Year Fashion students at ncn have been working on a Torvill and Dean-inspired project after the National Ice Centre approached the students to help them design an exhibition of costumes worn by the legendary skating duo, to mark the 25th anniversary of their Olympic success in 1984.
Students were invited to the Centre in Nottingham to take ideas from the original costumes which were worn by Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean in their famous routines: ‘Bolero’, ‘Mack and Mabel’, ‘Barnum’ and ‘Paso Doble’.
The students made miniature models of Torvill and Dean and presented their ideas in small display cabinets to demonstrate how they would exhibit the costumes at the Centre. This helped the Centre to decide on the final displays, which will be permanently on show for the public to enjoy.
Sam Oldham, Deputy General Manager at the National Ice Centre, commented: “We really appreciated the hard work and effort the students put into the Torvill and Dean costume display – they definitely came up with some innovative ideas. We are looking forward to showcasing the costumes at the Centre and we hope that all the students will be proud of the involvement they have had in the permanent display.”
