Students played an important role in an event aimed at helping young people take responsibility for their sexual health, held at ncn Basford Hall on Wednesday 11th February, in partnership with the Nottinghamshire Primary Care Trust (PCT).

A team of volunteers were trained to effectively deliver sexual health messages to their peers, in order to hand out scratch cards with sexual health-related questions and direct their peers to information points at the event.

Councillor Arnold, who met with the volunteer peer communicators, explained: “It was fantastic to see a male peer communicator at ncn working on the issues of contraception and STDs, as it is particularly important that both male and female students get the message on sexual health risks.

The event was part of the national ‘Want respect? Use a condom’ campaign, designed to raise awareness of potential sexual health risks and the range of related services available to students at the College. Students can access ‘drop-in’ clinics which are held regularly at ncn Basford Hall, ncn Clarendon and ncn City in partnership with Nottinghamshire PCT.

Health Bytes, a new resource which posts bitesize health information on student computers, is currently being piloted at ncn Basford Hall, with plans to roll out to other sites in the future.
