Apprentice Ben Brierly
demonstrates his skills
Trainee decorators showcased their well honed decorating skills at the annual Apprentice Paperhanger Competition, organised by the Painting and Decorating Association (PDA) and hosted by ncn on 5th September.
Candidates from across the East and West Midlands, as well as South Yorkshire, took part in the contest, held at ncn Basford Hall.
The challenge tested the ability of apprentices, aged between 17 and 23, to match and cut paper accurately, to place borders correctly and to apply paper smoothly without blisters.
ncn Painting and Decorating apprentice, Ben Brierley, from DKN Decorators, was one of three successful candidates to be selected for the final. Ben will now attend the PDA Annual Conference in Harrogate in October where the overall winner will be announced and cash prizes presented.
Paul Marsden, chief executive of the PDA, said: “The event went really well and it was a great opportunity to see the skills of the apprentices.
“It is a demanding contest that challenges candidates’ time-planning skills and their ability to work to a deadline, whilst maintaining the highest standards of quality in terms of the finished standard of work.
“Every year, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, and this year was no exception.”
