The Students’ Union (SU) organised a debate between local students and notable MP’s and decision-makers on 3rd April, to provide a platform for them to raise a range of issues affecting them and their peers.
The Big Debate gave students from ncn and local colleges and universities the opportunity to debate topics such as education; crime levels in Nottingham and the impact of the media on perceptions of young people, with some of the finest political minds in the country.
The panel comprised Kenneth Clarke MP, Alan Simpson MP, Bill Newton Dunn MEP, the Deputy Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police and the Director of Policy and Development for the 157 Group of colleges.
Alex Brown, ncn SU President said: “The Big Debate was a great success, with students being given a chance to really engage with the people that make decisions on genuine issues which affect their lives. The aim of the event was to give students this rare opportunity and this was achieved thanks to the commitment and hard work of all those involved. We hope to run a similar event, with an equally impressive panel, next year."
