Maths students at ncn High Pavement Sixth Form College have attained their best ever scores in the prestigious UK Senior Maths Individual Challenge, achieving a local record for the total number of awards.

60 ncn students entered the challenge with 31 gaining an award (1 Gold, 11 Silver and 19 Bronze). Gold award winner, Scott McCann, 17, from Sneinton, equalled the highest ever score by a ncn High Pavement student. Scott hopes to progress to study Mathematics at the University of Cambridge next year.

The Maths Challenges are tests of reasoning and mental agility designed to stimulate pupils’ interest in maths. All students aged 16-19 studying maths below university level can enter. This year over 90,000 students nationwide took part in the Senior Challenge.

Sally Francis, ncn Head of High Pavement, commented: “Participation in A’ level Maths and Further Maths at ncn High Pavement is exceptional. Students don’t just take it as a subject they also take part in enrichment activities such as the Maths Challenge. This is an outstanding achievement and I would like to congratulate the students and their tutors for these excellent results.”
