ncn held a series of activities to mark national Colleges Week between 9 and 15 November 2009.

The week began with a visit from top Japanese video games designer, Keita Takahashi, who talked to 80 Media and IT students about the video games industry at ncn Clarendon.

Keita showed the group some of his games including Noby Noby Boy – a game based around a virtual children’s playground – and explained his design concepts for a local project to improve the play area at Woodthorpe Grange in Nottingham.

During the week six Construction students renovated Hyson Green Youth Club through a project organised by the Volunteering team. The group of trainee carpenters, joiners, tilers and plasterers worked to restore the fitness suite and improve the overall look of the building, to create a better environment for the young people that use it.

The School of Construction donated tools and equipment and the Volunteering project funded materials including tiles, worktops and bathroom supplies. In addition, local plumbing company Daniel Oldham Plumbing Service fitted the taps and sinks free of charge.

The College also visited two local schools to deliver deaf awareness, interview techniques and a ‘Web Development Skills in Industry’ session.
