
High Pavement Society with student awardees

The highest achieving male and female ‘A’ Level ncn High Pavement students of 2009 were each awarded a ‘High Pavement Society Prize for Excellence’ on 9th September at ncn High Pavement Sixth Form College.
The awards were instituted by the High Pavement Society, which was founded in 1989 to recognise the long tradition of academic excellence associated with the name ‘High Pavement’ throughout the years - from 1788 to date.
Charlotte Marsh was awarded highest achieving female after receiving four grade As in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Geography and Psychology. She is progressing to The University of York where she will study Mathematics. She said: “I’m absolutely thrilled with my results. I needed three good grades to get into my chosen university, so to achieve four As is something I am very proud of.”
Highest achieving male, Phillip David, 18, received three A grades in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics, a B in Biology and an A grade in AS Further Mathematics. He is progressing to study Mechanical Engineering at The University of Warwick.
This year a new award for literary achievement was introduced in memory of the Booker prize-winning novelist, Stanley Middleton. Stanley was educated at High Pavement School and later became head of the English department where he remained until his retirement in 1981. The award was presented to 18-year-old Gracie Lewin who achieved a grade A in English Literature.
