ncn hosted The Best Waiter/Waitress Award on 18th May. The award, which was introduced in 2007, aims to encourage and inspire people within Nottinghamshire's restaurant industry and to help promote front of house as a well-respected profession.

Nominations were sought from the city and county venues, from independent restaurants to chains to hotel restaurants. With its mentor, Amanda Bains, of Restaurant Sat Bains with Rooms, heading the judging panel, four entrants were selected to go head to head in the final which took place at ncn Adams Restaurant & Brasserie.

Each of the finalists was allocated a table of VIP guests, media and sponsors to wait upon. Each finalist was then assessed in terms of professionalism, food and drink knowledge, personality, and guest rapport and interaction.

ncn Hospitality Management student, Michael Ross, 20, was nominated by his current employer The Lace Market Hotel and was one of the four successful entrants to compete in the final. Michael has now been invited to the Nottinghamshire Restaurant Awards on 17th June where the overall winner will be announced.

The awards ceremony will take place at Colwick Hall and is being hosted by television personality, Mark Durden-Smith. Here the winner will collect their award from sponsors, Young & Pearce, and the award mentor, Amanda Bains.
