Emma and James make apple tarte tatin

Preparation in full swing
Celebrity chefs including James Martin, Brian Turner and James Tanner utilised the services of ncn Hospitality & Catering students at the first Nottingham Food & Drink Festival in September. The talented student chefs assisted in the preparation of food for cookery demonstrations throughout the event in the city’s Old Market Square.
Emma Hartwright, 27-year-old mum of three from Carlton, was given the opportunity to work with professional chef and BBC ‘Ready Steady Cook’ regular James Tanner and joined him on stage for his live demonstration. Emma said: “I really enjoyed the experience as James was so friendly and down to earth. The preparation work was quite straightforward as I’m now in the second year of my Professional Chef’s Diploma, but joining James onstage in front of an audience was nerve-wracking!”
Emma worked with fellow ncn students to help prepare dishes such as chocolate fondant, rib eye steak with maple chilli onions, and apple tarte tatin.
The students assisted well-known TV chef Brian Turner during his ‘Great British Grub’ demonstration and Brian thanked the group personally for being a great set of helpers.
