BTEC National Diploma (BND) Acting and BND performance students from New College Nottingham (ncn) were chosen to star in a new DVD which will be shown to over forty police forces from around the country at a special conference at the end of November.

The DVD will be used by software company ABM UK Ltd to introduce their new covert intelligence management software to the police.

BND Acting student Kieran Powell, 17, who plays the victim of an attack, describes the opportunity: “It will be really good for my CV as I plan to go into acting or even teaching eventually.” Also, the filming subject matter is relevant as it deals with knife crime among young people.

ABM work closely with the police; supplying special software to assist them with covert policing operations such as witness protection, surveillance and police informant management. The DVD will be screened to over 100 representatives from the police at ABM’s annual user conference at the end of November to help illustrate the software.

Ed Mills, Marketing executive from ABM explains why they chose ncn students to be involved: “We were keen to work with a local organisation, and this is a fantastic way to engage with young people and get them involved in raising awareness about the dangers of being involved with gangs and knife crime.

“We are very pleased to be working with ncn, they have been extremely co-operative.”
