FD Hospitality and FD Tourism Management students
in New York with Alan Willis
Students from New College Nottingham (ncn) recently returned from five month work placements at the luxurious Elmwood Country Club in White Plains, New York.
Iwona Sterk, Elmwood’s Deputy Manager, travelled to Nottingham earlier in the year to interview Foundation Degree (FD) Hospitality Management and FD Tourism Management students for the US work placements.
During their time at the Country Club, the students carried out a number of duties working as chefs or in guest service roles in the restaurants and banqueting suite. Ms Sterk described the ncn group as “one of the best” they have had working with them.
Alan Willis, ncn HE Courses Co-ordinator explained: “The placements provide insight into American service styles, as well as an understanding of how a prestigious Country Club is managed. We have had very positive feedback both from the hospitality staff and head chef and the students did a great job of representing the College.”
