Hundreds of New College Nottingham (ncn) students gathered at the National Ice Centre/Trent FM Arena on 14th August to collect their A’ Level results. The College has once again achieved excellent A’ Level grades, with a 96% overall pass rate.
Among the successful students was Andrew Pinkett, who received four grade A’s in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Further Maths. Andrew is the first in his family to go to university. He was successful in getting an East Midlands Science and Technology Development grant to help with his degree in Physics, which he will study at the University of Nottingham.
Liz Leek, ncn Curriculum Director, said: “We are thrilled with this year's A’ Level results and extremely proud of all our students who have worked so hard to achieve success. Our highest performing students are going on to Oxford, Imperial, York and Warwick universities to study a wide range of subjects from Humanities through to Science.”
Student success stories
Mature student, Dawn Whatman, fulfilled a lifetime goal, achieving two grade A’s in English Language and English Literature despite working four nights a week as a carer and looking after her parents who are both recovering from operations. She is now progressing to a degree in English with Creative Writing at Nottingham Trent University.
Amy Hadfield from Sherwood has been accepted at Oxford University after gaining three A’s. Amy is taking a deferred place at Oxford University, which is paying for her to take two language courses abroad to improve French grammar and to learn Italian.
Khalil Barakji managed to achieve top grades despite sitting many of his exams in isolation as he was suffering from chickenpox. Since childhood, Khalil has dreamt of becoming a doctor. His grade A in Chemistry, B in Biology and C in ICT has secured a place at Thames Valley University to study a pre-medical course. He then hopes to study medicine at Imperial College London.
