If you are in years 9, 10 and 11 at school, you will be thinking about the type of career you would like to follow in the future and the courses you can study that will help you on that path. You can study different kinds of qualifications in a variety of curriculum areas and at a level that suits you.

What are my options?

‘A’ Levels

‘A’ Levels are normally taken after GCSEs if you are planning to go on to university or haven’t settled on a definite career path. They are widely recognised by universities and employers. ‘A’ Levels are academic qualifications and are usually studied over two years. If you're thinking about 'A' Levels, read more about ncn High Pavement Sixth Form College.

Vocational Studies

These are practical courses that are available in a wide range of work-related subject areas. You will develop skills and experience around a specific career path and our close links with employers will ensure that those skills reflect current and future workplace needs. Courses are designed with employability in mind and you can work towards qualifications that lead directly into employment or enable you to progress to university-level study.

If you're looking for a vocational course, you can search for a course online or read our course guides.

Apprenticeships

These qualifications are designed for those wanting to work in a specific job and will be assessed in a work environment. They are the qualifications that you will study if you do an Apprenticeship.

Foundation Learning

Foundation Learning qualifications are for learners who find it more difficult or need more time than others to reach a Level 2 qualification. Learners follow a more personalised learning programme and gain credit-based qualifications. Entry Level courses can give you a step up whatever your starting point or previous level of education. Our Level 1 courses will give you an introduction to an industry sector and help you to develop the practical skills and knowledge to progress to further study or into work.
