Charmaine Finnegan
Children and Young People Advanced Apprenticeship

Charmaine is working at the Once Upon a Time Day Nursery at New College Nottingham’s Adams Building as a Level 3 apprentice. She originally studied ‘A’ Levels at ncn, then returned to the College to take a Level 2 childcare course.

“I decided to start an Apprenticeship because I wanted to get my Level 3 childcare qualification, and it’s a great way to get work experience whilst studying. I love being part of a team at work; I really feel like a valued member of staff, and I enjoy working with the children.

“I go to college one evening a week and work a 37-hour week at the nursery. I’m involved in all areas of looking after the children from changing nappies to supporting literacy and numeracy.

“I’d definitely recommend an Apprenticeship; it’s a fantastic way of getting valuable work experience while studying. I really hope I can continue studying at the end of this by going on to a Foundation Degree in Early Years Studies and eventually working as a primary school teacher.”
