What kind of student is this course suitable for?
This course is open to any Maths student to study in the second year only, although suitably qualified students who wish to complete an ‘A2’ in Further Maths are encouraged to study selected Further Mathematics units in year one.
What will I achieve from the course?
This course is an extension of the ‘A’ Level Mathematics course: six more components would give you a full ‘A’ Level in Further Mathematics, while three would give you a similar certificate at ‘AS’ Level. The extra components will extend your work in Pure Mathematics and Statistics, introduce Mechanics and Decision Maths and can include a Numerical Methods units. Mechanics enables you to explain and predict what happens in the physical world. Decision Maths helps you to understand how maths ideas are used in Business and Computing.

Entry Requirements
Your tutor will discuss the entry requirements during the first year of your 'A' Level programme.
An early start in the first year of an 'A' Level programme is possible for some students.
Course Content
Further Mathematics will extend your work in Pure Mathematics, Statistics and Mechanics and may include a Numerical Methods unit or a Decision Mathematics unit.
It is assumed that you will have your own scientific calculator. A graphical calculator is also strongly recommended - ask your tutor for advice before buying one.
Assessment
A combination of examinations and one piece of coursework.
