History

History can be studied at ncn High Pavement Sixth Form College.

This course can also be studied over two years, or as an intensive one-year programme for post-sixth form students or those aged 19+ at ncn High Pavement Sixth Form College.

What kind of student is this course suitable for?

History remains a highly regarded and academically rigorous subject with an emphasis on skills such as memorisation, expression, analysis and evaluation. Proven ability in English Language is essential.

The options chosen to make up the full ‘A’ Level qualification focus on the early modern period, with a ‘pan-European’ slant. This is intended to cater to the needs of those students who intend to pursue History to a higher level, while at the same time providing useful, interesting and stimulating subject matter for those who have chosen History to complement their other studies by developing an expertise in a variety of skills (general as well as historical).

Teaching and learning

History at High Pavement is taught in two classrooms shared with Law. The Department is well resourced with a wide range of text books and supporting materials. Additional resources are available in the High Pavement Learning Centre. Use is made of a range of media in lessons, including primary sources and IT. Students are encouraged to read as widely as possible around the subject. The new syllabuses place a great deal of emphasis on individual investigation, and this is reflected in the approach to learning.
