This course can also be studied over two years, or as an intensive one-year programme for post-sixth form students or those aged 19+ at ncn Lace Market ‘A’ Level Centre.

What kind of student is this course suitable for?

This subject has proved to be a popular choice with over 120 students choosing to take it each year. Its appeal is related to the real-life relevance of the subject and the likelihood of enhanced career prospects after completing the course.

The course has enjoyed considerable examination success over the past 20 years; we continuously maintain an excellent pass rate. Many of our students progress to a wide range of higher education courses. We employ a variety of teacher-led approaches to learning and encourage supported self-study. You can expect to spend time on a variety of assignments, such as numerical exercises and project reports, both written and verbal. You can also expect to be taught for six sessions per week. So, if you would like a new challenge after 5 years of studying traditional subjects, why not consider ‘A’ Level Business Studies?

Where the course may lead?

Most students studying an ‘A’ Level course in Business Studies go on to university to study for degrees in Business Studies, Accountancy and Financial Management as well as other related subjects. Students starting a career straight after completing their ‘A’ Levels seek employment in the business world, particularly banking, insurance, law, management, accountancy and the civil service.

Entry Requirements

'AS': at least Grade C in GCSE Mathematics
'A2': at least Grade E in 'AS' Business Studies

2 units at 'AS' Level, including:

  • Planning and Financing a Business: starting a business and financial planning
  • Managing a Business: finance, people, operations and marketing

2 units at 'A2' Level, including:

  • Strategies for Success: strategies for finance, people, operations and marketing management
  • The Business Environment and Managing Change: external influences

Assessment

Examinations.
