Art: Textile Design

Art: Textile Design is studied at ncn Lace Market School of Art and Design.

What kind of student is this course suitable for?

The course is aimed at students who have an enthusiasm for, but not necessarily experience of textiles. The approach adopted in this course is not only experimental but also functional, offering students an opportunity to develop new skills and find out more about new techniques. Areas of study include: surface pattern decoration; printing and dyeing; machine and hand embroidery; appliqué; fashion construction and design; and accessories.

Teaching and learning

Tutorials are held on a regular basis throughout the course; they are a good chance to discuss your progress, talk about your personal investigation/study or any issues you might have. We operate an open door principle; apart from timetabled sessions you are encouraged to use the studios at any time to continue your studies.

Homework is set on a regular basis and may take the form of a visual sketchbook, written work or a research project. We encourage students to visit art galleries and museums, both local and national, and arrange gallery and museum visits throughout the course. We also frequently run projects and/or workshops with industry, artists/designers and the local community.
