'A' Levels at ncn High Pavement Sixth Form College

Aged 19 or above?

If you’re thinking of going back into education and gaining a few more qualifications, it doesn’t matter if you’re 18 or 81 – we have courses on offer for you. Our ncn City ‘A’ Level programme offers mature learners the chance to study a variety of subjects.

‘A’ Levels are normally taken if you’re planning on going into higher education. Most people study ‘A’ Levels over two years, so you’ll probably do ‘AS’ Levels in your first year, and ‘A2’s in your second.

You will need at least five GCSEs at Grades A*-C (including English Language or Mathematics) to start an ‘A’ Level programme with three ‘AS’ subjects in your first year. You will need six or more GCSEs at Grades A*-C (including English Language and Mathematics) to take four ‘AS’ subjects in your first year. At least three of the six GCSE subjects must be at Grades A*-B. Look at the entry requirements for each course to see if you have the right GCSEs.

Students usually study three ‘A2’ subjects in their second year. Generally, you need to have two full ‘A’ Levels to move into Higher Education to study an HND or Foundation Degree, and three or four full ‘A’ Levels to do a Degree.

You might want to do ‘A’ Levels but don’t have the GCSE grades required to get on the course of your choice. Don’t worry – at ncn we offer a Progress to ‘A’ Levels Programme, where you can study ‘AS’ Levels alongside GCSEs or sit the GCSE subjects you need to start ‘A’ Levels over one year instead of two.
