An irreverent take on the genre of musical theatre, Little Shop of Horrors follows the fortunes of the unfortunate Seymour Krelborn – a florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood.

This collaborative theatre piece involves staff and students from four separate courses at ncn including Level 3 acting, musical theatre and production. Students have created all aspects of the show, from the posters and programmes, through to set design, lighting and sound and, of course, the performance.

Attempts on her Life

October 2011
Acting students

A performance by ncn acting students has been entered into the National Student Drama Festival (NSDF) 2012 in Sheffield after receiving excellent feedback.

An NSDF judge recently visited ncn Clarendon to adjudicate the performance and the students will find out how well they have done at the beginning of 2012.

Attempts on her Life, by British playwright Martin Crimp, was directed by ncn Performing Arts Lecturer, Amy Legge at ncn’s Clarendon Courtyard Theatre. She commented: “The students worked incredibly hard to create this exciting piece of theatre and it would be the icing on the cake if we made it to the festival. But, irrespective of whether we get in or not, the students should be very proud of their achievement.”

NSDF is a national festival with productions, participants and professionals coming from across the UK to create a unique week of workshops.

XXXmas

January 2011
BA Theatre Arts students

The party must go on, and on, and on... In the not so distant future all festivities are banned. A commune of dissidents gathers to celebrate the 'Wintertime Break'. Under siege from the authorities they fight for their right to party, but as the paper hats start to fray and the cheese puffs go stale the revellers become increasingly desperate, searching for ways to make their protest more meaningful or at least more exciting. BA (Hons) Theatre Arts students name drop references to Euripides’ Trojan Women, Eliot’s Waste Land and Jung Chong’s Wild Swans in an attempt to make sense of the modern imperative to revel, rebel and revolt. This is not just a normal party - this is a Triple X Mass.

It is a chance for people to see what our First year Acting students have been doing in their classes, and hopefully get a feel for the sort of work they will be doing in College.

Our Town

December 2010
Foundation Degree Theatre Arts (Acting) students

'Our Town' is Grovers Corner, New Hampshire. From 1901 to 1913, we follow the Gibbs and the Webbs through their daily lives, their loves, their trials. Wilder describes his play as ‘an attempt to find value above all price for the smallest events in our daily life.’ He challenges us to embrace life, to appreciate its fullness in our surroundings and our relationships. To perform this play and to watch this play, a person merely needs, as Wilder tells us, ‘the passion to know what life means to us.’
